Established to serve the residents of Richmond Hill more than 45 years ago, our hospital changed hands in 2009. Now under the management of Dr. Issam Kadri, the facilities have been recently upgraded as we strive to achieve the highest possible standards and provide world-class care for you and your pets.
Dr. Issam Kadri
Dr. Kadri received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He then enrolled in internship in Internal Medicine & Surgery in Manhattan Veterinary Group, spending 1 ½ years at one of the highest-rated animal hospitals in North America.
Dr. Kadri began his career working in 24-hour general and emergency practice hospitals. He went on to spend seven years gaining specialized experience in:
• Internal medicine
• Emergency care
• Soft-tissue surgery.
In 2009, Dr. Kadri partnered with the Willowdale Animal Hospital Group based in Toronto, from where he branched out and purchased the Richmond Hill practice.
With exceptional empathy and a deep love for all animals, Dr. Kadri works daily to help improve the lives of the pets and their parents who come to him.
Tristan Barran, DVM
Dr. Tristan Barran has been working with Richmond Hill Animal Hospital since 2016 on a part-time basis, covering Dr. Kadri’s days off. On alternate days, he also works at different practices around the GTA. He is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College with particular interests in feline medicine, ophthalmology, and geriatric and palliative care.
Dr. Barran also recently completed additional training in dentistry to build on his skill set. He is certified in Fear Free handling and management of pets in the clinic to ensure that you and your pets have a less stressful trip to the doctor! On his time off, Dr. Barran enjoys spending quality time with his partner and their cat, Iron Chef Cat Cora.
Meet the Team
Kayla Bellissimo is a graduate of York University with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She has been with the clinic since July 2016 as a Receptionist/Assistant. Kayla has always had a passion for animals and will be applying to veterinary school in the coming years.
She currently has two cats (Gemma and Onyx) and a leopard gecko (Leonardo). One of her cats, Onyx, was adopted from Richmond Hill Animal Hospital in September 2016. She raised him and his siblings since they were 3 days old. His three siblings found loving homes, and Onyx found a sometimes-loving sister Gemma.
Jasmina Kircanski is an internationally trained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with a background and extensive experience in research and science, most recently for the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Ontario Veterinary College. Although Jasmina holds her MSc specializing in Infectious Diseases, she decided to return to her passion for interaction and work with animals and to redirect her career towards small animal clinical practice.
Jasmina joined Richmond Hill Animal Hospital in April 2016 as a veterinary technician, and is currently working towards obtaining her North American veterinary medicine license. While a huge part of her life revolves around veterinary medicine, in her downtime, Jasmina enjoys fitness, cooking, the outdoors and most importantly, spending time with her partner and her 8-year old Yorkie-Maltese, Winston.
Jean Byers-Scarola has been a Veterinary Technician since 1993 and has worked with Dr. Kadri since 2004. She graduated from the 2-year Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in King City. Jean has extensive experience in nursing animals in both emergency and critical care as well as a surgical technician.
Growing up on a farm and always being surrounded by animals fostered her love of pets and her desire to help them when they need care. At home, she is the proud mom of a Shih Tzu named Lily, a kitten named Georgie and a hedgehog named Shady.
Eleni is going into her four years of honours specializing in biology, with a double major in visual arts at York University. She began with the clinic originally as a volunteer in the early summer of 2017 before becoming a permanent Receptionist/Assistant in September 2017. She will be applying to Veterinary School in the coming years with the dream of becoming an exotic vet (specifically Lions and Tigers).
Eleni has been exposed to animals her whole life. As a child growing up in Greece, she actively helped stray animals and was a member of an animal rescue group, which provided aid to animals that were abandoned or mistreated and needed relocating.
She currently shares her mama’s love with her younger sister and two furry siblings, Iggy an 8-year-old Yorkie from Greece and Stella, a 9-year-old mini poodle she found abandoned on a busy highway here in Toronto. When not in school or helping animals, she enjoys spending time with friends, working out, painting and traveling.
Tour Our Hospital
Take a tour of our premises at Richmond Hill Animal Hospital in Toronto, and you’ll see a space that has been nurtured by the love of animals. We have four fully-equipped examination rooms, including one that’s further away from the hustle and bustle at reception that is reserved solely for cats. We burn pheromones in the room and it never, ever has a canine patient, so your kitty can rest assured she is safe and sound when she visits us.
We also have two operating rooms, a dental surgery and a laser surgery room. We offer facilities for the full range of services we provide. With sophisticated, modern laser and dental surgery equipment, an online store and boarding facilities, we’re able to give you and your pet all the care you need.
